What we clear in Kensington and Chelsea

Kensington and Chelsea is one of the most built-up boroughs in the country, with houses, mews, mansion blocks and estates close together, and parking is controlled on every street. The council’s bulky service takes items from outside the property; collecting from inside needs a risk assessment and a wait of several weeks.

  • Chelsea and King’s Road: discreet clearances for period homes, mews houses and boutiques
  • Kensington and Holland Park: furniture removal and renovation waste from large family homes
  • Notting Hill and Ladbroke Grove: house and flat clearances, garden waste from private and communal gardens
  • Earl’s Court and South Kensington: flat clearances and end-of-tenancy removals in mansion blocks and conversions

We carry everything out ourselves, from basements and upper floors with no lift.

Next door we also cover Westminster and, across the river, Wandsworth.

Keep this in mind

The council’s bulky waste collection or us?

Kensington and Chelsea Council collects up to ten bulky items for £44, free for households on Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support (council bulky waste page). New slots are released weekly, and items go outside the property. It doesn’t take garden waste, builders’ waste, pianos or soiled mattresses, and landlords and managing agents can’t use it. If you are a landlord, need it today, or need it carried out of a basement or an upper floor, we can help.

Where the borough’s rubbish goes

Residents use the Western Riverside Waste Authority sites across the river: Smugglers Way in Wandsworth (SW18 1JS), where cars must book a slot, and Cringle Dock in Battersea (SW8 5BX), which is closed to cars but open to residents and traders in vans (council page).

Fly-tipping fines and your duty of care

The council issues £1,000 fixed penalties for fly-tipping. If someone you paid dumps your rubbish, you can be fined too, from a £1,000 fixed penalty up to an unlimited fine in court, so check they hold a waste carrier licence (council page). We are registered with the Environment Agency (CBDU575975) and give you a waste transfer note for every job.

Parking and loading

There are no uncontrolled streets in the borough and no visitor permits. Bulky goods can be loaded for up to 40 minutes on yellow lines, unless kerb markings ban loading, and for up to 20 minutes in resident or pay-by-phone bays (council page). Suspending a bay costs £82 a day, plus £408 at short notice. We work within the loading times, so for most jobs no suspension is needed.

Skip or wait and load?

A skip on the road needs a council licence, from £153 a month, and without one the fine is up to £1,000 (council skip page). On a narrow Chelsea or Kensington street, wait and load is usually simpler: we arrive, load and leave.
