What we clear in Wandsworth

Wandsworth Council’s bulky collection only takes items left at street level on your bin day, nothing from inside, basements or down steps, so anything that needs carrying out is down to you or to us.

Wandsworth’s bulky collection is no longer free

Wandsworth Council has ended its free bulky waste collections. It now charges £24.90 for up to four items (three sacks count as one) and £11.10 for each extra item (council bulky waste page). Collection is on your normal bin day between 6am and 7pm with no time slot. Items must be at street level, and built-in units, soil, pianos, American-style fridge freezers and range cookers are not taken. For a few items you can carry out, the council is cheaper. If you need a time, collection from inside, or more than it takes, we come the same day.

Smugglers Way and vans

The residents’ tip is Smugglers Way, SW18 1JS. Cars must book a slot, and vans, trailers and cars over 2m high are not allowed (council page). Residents with a van must register in advance and use the transfer station next door, where DIY waste is charged.

Fly-tipping fines and your duty of care

Wandsworth hands out £1,000 on-the-spot fines for fly-tipping, and warns that if you can’t show who took your rubbish you risk a £5,000 fine and a criminal record (council page). We are registered with the Environment Agency (CBDU575975) and give you a waste transfer note for every job.

Parking and red routes

Wandsworth has all-day and one-hour controlled parking zones. Suspending a bay needs seven clear working days’ notice and costs a £93.20 booking fee (£82.50 with ten days’ notice) plus £43.20 for the first day per space (council page). The A3, the A24, the South Circular (A205), the A214 and the Wandsworth one-way system are TfL red routes, so there we load from a side street.

Skip or wait and load?

A Wandsworth skip licence is £37.60 for 14 days, but a skip in a parking bay also needs that bay suspension, booked a week ahead (council page). Our wait-and-load service needs neither: we arrive, load and leave.
